The Savage 1899 Lever Action Rifle

Sometimes your name Carries the day. Winchester Rifles according to written history were instrumental in taming the American West. I love an Winchester Lever action as much as the next guy! Not taking anything away from Winchester there were some other rifles that helped carve out the landscape of the American West in the late 1800's. There was Marlin, a few tries by Colt, the Spencer and Savage Arms to name a few. All of the above Rifle Manufacturers as well as many more were used by the American Pioneers.

It is 1899. Cuba is no longer under Spanish rule. That is the end of the Spaniards 400 year run in the Americas. Queens and Staten Island become part of New York. A Rifleman acquires a new Lever action rifle. He marvels at the gun's case colored receiver and its long tapered barrel. He can hardly contain the excitement at the prospect that the rotary magazine will allow him to shoot pointed bullets. He knows this will extend his effective range by a few hundred yards. He slides his new 1899 Savage into its Scabbard as he climbs onto his horse.

The 1899 Savage Lever Action is an Improved version of the 1895 Savage. It was manufactured in Utica New York by the Savage Arms Company. While originally only produced in 303 Savage it was eventually made in 16 different calibers. One even being 410 gauge. It was produced from 1899 to 1998. The 1899 or 99 as it was renamed in 1921 is a internal hammered lever action rifle. The Savage has an internal rotary box magazine. Some later models also had a Removable box Magazine. I know quite a few men that took a lot of game over the years with their Savage model 99's.
