The AK-47 Rifle
Just the other day in a news clip there was a recent picture of the Taliban. In the picture there were three Taliban posing with their AK-47s. Several things about this picture just did not seem right. A few things about it struck me as odd. The AK's that the Taliban we're holding looked brand new. They even had modern plastic stocks. Usually the Taliban are carrying weapons that have lived a hard life and show it. Another thing that seemed weird was the men in the picture all had perfect trigger control. I seems to me that these Taliban have been trained to a much higher degree than the Taliban of the past. I wonder where they got that training.
The AK-47 has quite the history. It has been in service in multiple countries since 1949. Generally, today when our armed forces are sent into battle their foes carry the AK-47'S. I guess the Cold War is still being fought to some degree.
The AK-47 was designed in Russia by Mikhail Kalashnikov. It is gas operated with a rotating bolt. The design was finished in 1947. The AK has been used by at least 93 Countries. The AK is a semi automatic rifle that fires the 7.62 x 39 cartridge. The rifle in standard configuration weighs 7.7 lbs with the 30 round magazine empty. It is 35 inches long with a fixed wooden stock. The gun is quite handy and is popular with the American sporting market.
