Winchester Model 21

The Winchester Model 21

It is 1931, and smack dab in the middle of the Great Depression John Olin becomes president of Winchester. His peers must have thought he was nuts getting Winchester into the high-end double barrel shotgun business. When most Americans could not afford to put clothes on their backs Winchester introduces the Model 21 Double Barrel Shotgun.

In 1931, most Americans could not afford to put food on the table. You have to love Americans and the chances they take even in times of crisis. The Model 21 was intended to compete with the fine double barrel shotguns of the day. Who would have thought they would produce a gun that would complete with Fox, Parker Brothers and LC Smith. John Olin had that vision.

The Winchester Model 21 was manufactured from 1931 until around 1990. Winchester then sold the rights to manufacture the gun to U.S.R.A.C. They still manufacture them to this day. The Model 21 was probably the strongest of all double barrels produced. It was manufactured in 12,16,20,410 and just a very few in 28 gauge. It could be also had in multiple grades. To own one today is quite an expensive privilege.
