The Russian Mosin Nagant
It is Hunting season 2001. The boy waits in the dim light as the sun comes up. He daydreams as he rubs the dew off the stock of his old rifle. He wonders what it was like for the Russian soldier who depended on his rifle for his life. He wondered how realistic the the movie The Enemy AT The Gates was. The boy had seen it in March.
As the sun rises the boy hopes he will get to pretend he is Jude Law. Jude played the role of the fictionalized version of famous Russian Sniper Vasily Zaitsev. Instead of a German Soldier the boys prey is a Whitetail deer. His rifle is a Russian Mosin Nagant Model 91/30 that once was a Sniper Rifle.
The Mosin Nagant was developed in 1891 by Captain Sergei Mosin and E'mile Nagant. It was produced from 1891 till 1973. It was produced by at least 7 manufacturers including believe it or not Remington. There were at least 37 million produced. It has been used in at least 41 named conflicts worldwide. The Mosin-Nagant is a Bolt action box magazine fed rifle. It weighs in at 8 pounds and is 48.5 inches long. The magazine holds 5 rounds of 762x54r Ammo. The Old Russian War horse was imported in great numbers to the U.S. To bad they are not $59.99 any more. The Rifle has the privilege of being in service longer than any other military service rifle.
