The Luger American Eagle

Luger American EagleLuger American Eagle

The Luger has been the iconic symbol of German Military might since the turn of the century. Other than the Colt Single Action Army and John Browning's Colt 1911 the German Luger has to be the most recognized handgun ever manufactured. Even 10 year old youngsters recognize the iconic Luger thanks to the video game "Call of Duty". With Germany at war with America in WWI and WWII, how did the Luger come to be produced with the American Eagle crest on the frame?

In 1898, before Germany decided that it was their destiny to rule the world by bringing on WWI, they were Capitalist. The Austrian inventor Georg Johan Luger invented the Parabellum Pistol. The first pistols were in 30 Luger caliber. Switzerland was the first country to buy the Luger. They were adorned with the Switzerland National Cross and sunburst emblem. This gave the company the idea to put other Countries' Crest on the Luger for potential sales to other countries. This is how the Luger American Eagle came to be. They were made several times over the years with very limited total production. Today they are highly sought after collectibles.

They were made in 30 Luger and 9mm as well. These make up part of the very few Lugers that were not part of the war machine. They are quite beautiful with the American Eagle Crest and their grip safety. When you hold one you realize they are quite the engineering feat. Anyone who owns one is usually proud to have it.
