The Colt 1911 Pistol

Colt 1911A1

John Moses Browning is a name almost any gun person Is familiar with. He is responsible for designing more firearms than any other person in history. He designed multiple Winchester rifles, the 1917 machine gun, the 1919 machine gun, the heavy M2 machine gun, The Browning automatic rifle, The Browning auto five shotgun and the colt 1911 pistol. These are just a few of the firearms he designed or had influence in The design of. The Colt 1911 pistol was a John Browning design. It was developed to participate in the trials for a new service pistol for the US military. At the March 1911 trial the Colt/ Browning designed 1911 fires 6000 rounds without a failure. The 1911 did significantly better than the Savage that it was competing against. The rest is history. My guess is there has not been a major military conflict since WW1 that the Colt 1911 has not been involved in. I have some special forces friends that used USGI 1911's just a few years back on a mission in Afghanistan.

The Colt 1911 has been in continuous production since 1911. The weapon has been manufactured by several hundred different companies. It is single action and has 8 round capacity. The 1911 has a 5 inch barrel. It shoots the hard hitting .45 ACP rounds. It is 8.625 inches overall and weighs in at 39 ounces. In my opinion it is the best battle pistol designed to date.
